INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF AFRICAN DESCENT

BICENTENNIAL OF ORIENTAL emancipation process

Under the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination Triangulation

kultural - URUGUAY

Presents:

" Afro-Uruguayan CULTURE IN THE EDUCATION SYSTEM"

-ESTABLISH GENERATION OF LOCAL AREAS TO ALLOW THE PRESERVATION, PROMOTION AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE Afro-Uruguayan culture AS A TOOL FOR SOCIAL AND CULTURAL INTEGRATION-

The implementation of the triangulation kultural - URUGUAY through a CSO (civil society organization ) comes from considering the objectives stated in its legal installation of the first cultural center in the department of Canelones. In order to serve a large population of African descent living in the department and create a space that promotes interracial and intercultural training for girls, boys and youths of different social, racial and gender betting on a real integration, taking as a point starting the respect for differences.

Afro-Uruguayan community was formed in the early stages of Uruguay from the presence of enslaved Africans. Many of its members were already present at the founding of the city of Cologne, 1680 or the city of Montevideo in 1726.

With the use of its labor force is formed and strengthened the economies of colonial Montevideo and the base of the first economy of independent Uruguay.

The presence of African descendants in the liberator was another major contribution to the construction of the nationality of URUGUAY.

enslaved Africans in Uruguayan territory came from many ethnic groups in different parts of Africa, a large number of them came from the territory now occupied countries Angola and DRC, witnessed it is the presence of a large number of words in the Kimbundu, one of the Bantu languages \u200b\u200bof the trunk members.

Though artistic expressions are those that have taken on greater state and public awareness, the Afro-Uruguayan culture is not limited to these expressions, but other components such as multiple religious expressions, cooking, organizing.

Afro-descendants in Uruguay have been discriminated against due to their ethnicity - race, which means that most of its members have historically been in the areas of exclusion and economic and social invisibility of participation in collective gesture that gave the country many benefits.

Although historically the education system underwent the absence of the presence and development of African descendants in the country in recent years has been evolving towards integration.
